lunar new year 2014; day 1

This is probably the only time of year that I actually put an effort into wearing some colour. I’m a sucker for long-sleeved dresses and dark floral prints, so this dress was right up my alley.

fashion totd: The tricky thing about any patterned fabric is that if there is too much of it, you’ll just look swallowed up. So since this dress already has long sleeves, it would only work if it’s short (which it is, I wore safety shorts, don’t worry). Also, keep the rest of your accessories simple and neutral.

Excuse my messily done red velvet nails, I had to rush them this morning. Also, my hair was one big blob of NO when I got up and it took me almost an hour to tame it. Β Hope everyone had a great start to the new year!

When your wardrobe is almost completely black and white like mine, outerwear with brighter colours will come in super handy. I love the whole tumblr feel of tying a shirt or jacket around the hips too.

fashtion totd: when wearing long pants/skirts, same coloured shoes give off the illusion of longer legs.

Such a day well spent listening to good music and having fun with friends. Somehow ended up going with more people than planned but that made it that much more fun.

Favourites of the day were definitely The Jezabels and Daughter (and Vance Joy though I only heard like 10 minutes of him). Cannot wait for next year’s Laneway festival!

festival fashion totd: light, breathable fabrics are always best for festival-like events so avoid materials like leather/pleather/suede/polyester

It’s too cold for you here.

So I celebrated my friends’ combined 18th last night with a costume party. Being lazy as usual, I chose to build my costume around a simple LBD and go as the elegant Holly Golightly (or Audrey Hepburn) in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Bought a string of pearls from f21, a magic wand (close enough) from a party shop and pulled out one of my little tiaras from the good old days of playing dress up.

It was such an epic, crazy night with good food and even greater company.

Did I tell you how divinely and utterly happy I am?

Went to SAJC today and got showed around by the two best tour guides ever (picture above). Ate some marshmallows, heard some music, did some tie-dye. I honestly went with zero intentions of ever enrolling, but the more I saw of the school, the more I fell in love with it. I know I’m going to sound like I’m promoting the school, but this is truly the way I feel about it.

I love that they start the day with morning worship, I love that the atmosphere is so home-y and friendly, I love that their shirt says “One Family Unbroken” (because it shows what really is important to them) and I love the fact that you can wear whatever shoes you want haha.

If I were to ever decide to go to a jc, SA would definitely be my first choice. Thank you to everyone who was a part of my day!
